From the world’s first successful allogeneic transplant in 1968 to the establishment of our Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program in 1974, the BMT program at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview and University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview has developed into a world-class program with a reputation for innovation and excellence in blood and marrow transplantation. Our mission at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is to continue this legacy through unity in our commitment to provide expert, excellent, and innovative care to blood and marrow transplant patients and families throughout the continuum of their care experience.
To provide you with the best care experience, we use a family-centered, interdisciplinary approach throughout the BMT process. First, our staff coordinates your referral to our Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. After referral to the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, the BMT staff will:
- Coordinate communication between you, your referring physician, the BMT physicians and nurses, and other hospital departments.
- Work with the hospital’s patient financial services representatives and your insurance company regarding insurance coverage.
- Communicate with you and your referring physician about your medical condition and possible dates for evaluation and admission.
