Eligibility
You and your family will be eligible for an apartment only after you arrive in Minneapolis for treatment at University of Minnesota Medical Center. Your social worker then needs to make a referral for you to the Accommodations Program. At the point of referral, you must be ready to accept and pay for the next available apartment. Payment can be made by check or money order only. Any alternative payment plan must be arranged with your social worker prior to referral.
You will need to supply a daytime phone number that the Accomodations Program will use to call you as soon as your unit is ready for occupancy. Accomodations fills vacancies according to the date and time of your referral. If you decline or have new concerns about accepting the apartment, Accomodations will refer you back to your social worker for further consultation.
University of Minnesota Medical Center leases these units through Dinnaken Properties, a private company. Their primary focus is apartment rental for students attending the University of Minnesota. The building and apartments are well maintained. The Dinnaken staff will assist you as much as possible. However, they are not trained to handle the medical concerns of our patients and families. Those concerns may best be directed to your medical team, social worker or the Accommodations office. In agreement with Dinnaken, once you sign a rental agreement, a change in the apartment unit cannot be made. In rare circumstances, Dinnaken reserves the right to make changes regarding which units are offered to our patients. They can also make changes to the assigned parking spaces designated for our patients and families.
Due to high demand, you are your family will be expected to vacate the apartment once you are no longer receiving active treatment, or are no longer required to be in close proximity to the hospital.
Please note: All apartment check-in must take place between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
