Other members of his family were carriers of the gene. But little Brent was the first to endure the full effects of the rare condition called IPEX. His doctors in Chicago diagnosed him, but a cure seemed elusive.

Then on a vacation stop in Minnesota, Brent got sick and ended up at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital. It was the beginning of a journey that led to the family moving to Minnesota for Brent's care.
